Students from Kazakhstan to Undergo Free Internships in Türkiye

A unique chance – to study tourism and the hotel business in Türkiye free of charge this summer – has been given to 260 Kazakhstani students. Over 4 months the young people will study at Antalya Bilim University and also do practical training in the Rixos chain of five-star hotels. This opportunity has arisen thanks to the international programme of experiential learning in tourism, TELP (Tourism Experiental Learning Program). It has been joined by 7 higher education institutions from Nur-Sultan, Aktau, Shymkent and Turkistan, which have signed cooperation protocols with their Turkish partners.

“I am glad that, thanks to the international programme, the number of employees in Kazakhstan who will be able to gain new knowledge and use it in practice will increase. Tourism is work from the heart. We are proud that the leading universities of our countries will contribute to the training of young professionals who will work from the heart and strengthen the bridge of friendship and cooperation in the field of tourism,” said the general manager of the Rixos President Astana hotel, Professor Tansel TERCAN, at a press conference in Nur-Sultan.

The students will be enrolled at Antalya Bilim University in the Faculty of Tourism. After receiving theoretical knowledge, they will be immersed in all the finer points of the hotel business and the restaurant trade. They will be given the opportunity to plunge into office work, hotel housekeeping, the preparation of menus, drinks and food for tourists, and so on. So that by the end they have a complete picture of how the tourism industry in Türkiye is organised and of what enabled it to break through to become one of the world leaders.

The Kazakhstani students will have all the costs associated with accommodation, travel, meals and uniforms fully covered. And as a bonus they will receive about 100 dollars each month. As early as July, when an influx of tourists is forecast, the first group of young people will be able to begin practical training in five-star hotels in Antalya, Bodrum and Göcek.

“We have selected 70 students so far. But 67 people have expressed a wish to go. But I think there will be demand in the future. I think this is a superb opportunity for students to study under these educational programmes. Because we know that there is a problem of a shortage of quality personnel on the Kazakhstan market. This extensive programme will allow our students to improve their practical skills in the hotel business, the restaurant trade, cookery and, possibly, in the entertainment industry, which are in great demand on our market,” emphasised the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Service of KazUTB, DBA, Professor Almagul NURGALIYEVA.

“Our university selected students of the educational programmes in the restaurant trade, the hotel business and tourism. As of today, these are 30 2nd- and 3rd-year students who have a good command of English, as well as of the Kazakh, Russian and Turkish languages, and who are top-performing students. We have already prepared the passports and photographs and filled in the form for attending the summer school. Our students have been vaccinated. Many have gone through two stages of vaccination. I hope that before departure the rest will go through the second stage too. Of course, this is being done for the safety of our students and to prevent the spread of the coronavirus,” said the acting Rector of ENU, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Yerkin ONGARBAYEV.

Türkiye is rightfully one of the leaders in the modern tourism industry. That is why the experience accumulated over decades by the brotherly country is very important for Kazakhstan, the heads of the country’s higher education institutions emphasise. Especially in training qualified specialists capable of shaping a favourable image of the country. In addition, the international programme will allow the young people to improve their communication skills and knowledge of foreign languages, establish contacts, broaden their horizons, acquire new competences and skills, prove themselves and lay firm foundations for a successful career in the future. On graduating from their universities, the most talented students will be given priority in employment at Rixos hotels, above all in Kazakhstan, but not only there. They will also have an advantage in any country of the world where these hotels are represented.

The organisers emphasise that the ABU TELP programme will be continued and will help Kazakhstanis to reach a new level and to become, in the future, internationally recognised specialists and managers in the service sector.
