ASTANA (AA) – An “Istanbul Night” event showcasing Turkish food culture was held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.

The event, organised by a Turkish hotel manager and the Diplomats’ Club in Kazakhstan, was attended by ambassadors of foreign countries and a large number of guests.

At the event, döner, pide, sarma and other main dishes were served along with salad and dessert, and Turkish music was performed.

Tansel Tercan, one of the organisers of the event, stated in his remarks to the AA correspondent that the event would be held twice a month and said: “Istanbul Night will now be an identity of ours. Our service will continue in a concept made up of the unique dishes of Turkish cuisine.”

Noting that the cooks they brought from Türkiye prepare the dishes with Turkish recipes using local products, Tercan said: “The culture of drink, food and entertainment all together.”

Tercan pointed out that, with the support of local musicians and with traditional Turkish costumes and decorations, they tried to evoke Istanbul.

Pointing out that Kazakhstan and Türkiye are societies that live intertwined in cultural terms, Tercan said: “The flavours and dishes of Turkish cuisine are now on their way to becoming a brand in the world, and it is a type of cuisine that is eaten and liked by everyone, spoken of with praise, and whose tastes are shared and loved by everyone. That is why we saw fit to create such a concept.”
