When karaoke is switched to the Latin alphabet, we will have to sing from memory. But for now we are enjoying ourselves: Astana has hosted what appears to be the first party of this format – the IT specialists of Kazakhtelecom JSC competed in singing against the stars of journalism. Or, to generalise – who matters more: the techies or the humanities people? With that in its sights, a chain of events of two links – the qualifying round and the final – moved towards a winner. All of this was called Digital vs Media Karaoke Battle, and it is read as “Digital versus media karaoke battle”.
Standing guard over the humanities, only big names and big titles:
- Presenter at the Khabar TV channel – Maya Bekbayeva
- Presenter at the Astana TV channel – Sandi Sultan
- Presenter at Khabar24 – Arystan Baltin
- Reporter at the news and analysis portal Informburo – Diana Kulmaganbetova
- Creative director of Channel Seven – Yevgeny Pereverzev
- Correspondent at the news portal Tengrinews – Mirkhat Azhigaliyev

On the technical side – the IT specialists of Kazakhtelecom JSC:
Adil Karybayev, Aigerim Omarova, Yerlen Yermatov, Nurlybek Azhigulov, Nurgul Kashkumbayeva, Asiya Daniyar.
And while you are guessing who won, we will tell you how it all went.
By seven o’clock on Saturday evening, the Zheruiyk hall of the Rixos hotel and the lobby in front of it were already prepared and decorated – wash lighting, arches, tables, a large banner for photos. The dressing room, a role played by the Shanyrak hall, was filled with the noise and bustle of the make-up artists who were preparing the models for the catwalk show. The hosts, Azamat and Anton, also in the dressing room, were peacefully awaiting the start of the evening. The guests, meanwhile, during the time set aside for gathering, helped themselves to tea and snacks, took photographs and chatted. The evening had a Japanese theme, which conceptually matched the idea, since Japan is the birthplace of karaoke.
At eight things got under way. Azamat and Anton, standing on the stage, announced the participants of the event. The guests applauded the media personalities and the Kazakhtelecom employees with equal enthusiasm. The karaoke was built on the following principle: each performer learned two competition songs. Half of the participants were eliminated at the qualifying stage, so that six went through to the final. Responsible for this was a jury of two people: the star of Kazakhstani music – Rinat Maltsagov and the general manager of the Rixos President Astana hotel Tansel Tercan, the managing director of Kazakhtelecom JSC – Bikesh Kurmangaliyeva
Let us not drag it out, we will say it straight away – everyone sang well. But Sandi Sultan did not make it to the final. To be honest, the karaoke format proved its worth – all the stars performed and sang as though they were singing for their own. Among the media personalities, Maya Bekbayeva, Yevgeny Pereverzev and Arystan Baltin stood out – they both sang excellently and moved with artistry. Maya Bekbayeva got into the role of VIA Gra with the song “My emancipation”, sincerely trying to convey all the expression and drama of the piece – and even came down from the stage onto the dance floor and started dancing with everyone! Arystan Baltin and Yevgeny Pereverzev were memorable for their voices – they hit the high notes and sang beautifully and with feeling. Sandi Sultan also sang very well – but by some twist of fate known only to the jury, she did not make it to the final of the battle.
Nobody was shy of anybody. People sang along, danced, listened and cheered for their own. The stars were as relaxed as could be, laughing, enjoying themselves and singing from the heart.
The top three winners were as follows:
3RD PLACE – a family trip to the Kazakhstani Lapland theme park in Borovoe – MAYA BEKBAYEVA
2ND PLACE – a stay at the BUDAN 5* hotel, Full Board, for 2 persons, 8 days (7 nights), Afyon thermal resort – DIANA KULMAGANBETOVA
1ST PLACE – a trip to Antalya for 2 persons with a 7-day stay at the Rixos Sungate hotel – ADIL KARYBAYEV
And so, in the karaoke battle between the IT sector and the Media, the techies won. Technically done, say what you will. Such was the Digital vs Media Karaoke Battle/
